Does neutering make dogs less affectionate or change personality?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 4 months and 15 days old | 7.8 lbs

Does a dog’s personality change after being neutered? I spoke with someone who owned the same breed of dog and stated that his bichon is no longer affectionate or friendly after being neutered. Is this true??? I am aware it’s individualized to each dog but I was wondering how common it is for this to occur?!?!?

This is not common at all. It is quite a myth that neutering changes a pets personality. It can calm them, decrease aggression, and decrease marking, but that is really all it should affect. Good question, and definitely neuter your pet :)
