I would recommend that you have your dog checked out by a vet. Dry skin in dogs should not cause wounds. Dry skin is most often accompanied by dandruff, which can be treated with soothing and hydrating shampoos, special diets for sensitive skin, or adding supplements like fish oil to the diet. Other possible causes for the issue you are seeing would be allergies, hot spots, mange, fleas, skin infection, autoimmune disease, ringworm, among many others. The vet will do a thorough examination and may collect a sample for evaluation under the microscope. Once they have a better idea as to the actual cause for the issue, they can discuss an appropriate treatment plan.
