My dog fell and cried. What are the signs of injury to watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 4 months old | 22 lbs

Charlie just fell from approximately 3 feet and hit the side of his body. He immediately ran towards me and I picked him up and I couldn’t feel anything wrong about him. I took him to our bed and when he jumped down he let out a little cry. I picked him up and pressed around his body but again, everything looks okay. What are the alert sings ee should look for or should we take him to the vet right now?

If you can have him examined by your veterinarian now, that would be optimal. Your veterinarian may recommend x-rays after a physical exam to rule out any fractures. Monitor for lethargy, difficulty breathing, bleeding from the nose, mouth or ears, bruising or swelling.
