My dog won't sleep outside after being scared, why is she hiding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Kelpie | Female | 3 years and 9 months old

My dog sleeps outside every night since she was born. Last night she got scared by something. Now she won’t sleep outside and the minute it got dark she hid under my bed and won’t come out.

Poor Blu! It is possible there was a loud noise, such as a car zooming by, or even an animal out there that startled her. Checking the yard for anything that may indicate a strange animal is a good idea. I would give her a few nights to settle back in, and then try to have her outside again. If she does sleep outside, making sure she has a secure place to sleep with bedding and shelter to keep her out of the cold and rain is a good idea.
