My parrot won't stop bouncing and screaming. What's wrong with her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatoo | Female | unspayed | 0 lbs

Susie my parrot is both jumping on the spot and screaming excessively. All started about 2 weeks ago. She has callouses on her feet. She sleeps at night but during the day she won’t stop bouncing and screaming. As always her door is always left open but when she comes out she is straight to the top of her cage excessively bouncing and screaming. I found spraying her with water calmbed her down but it’s only a temp fix. I put her on me and she does the same bouncing and screaming. Nails clipped.

Hello, I'd recommend taking Susie to a veterinarian. These changes in behavior could indicate anxiety, pain, or illness. Bloodwork and x-rays would likely be the first tests your vet suggests to rule out major organ dysfunction. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
