Cat peeing on blankets: Is it behavioral or a litter box issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 6 months old | 10 lbs

My cat loves peeing on my blankets. If they are folded, she won't do it. but if its laying on the couch kinda messy, she will. She has a clean litter box, it is the litter robot... I got that and it helped immensely with the peeing on carpet. But now I think she just literally enjoys peeing on the blankets. it is because she can "dig" at the blanket when its not folded? maybe she just enjoys it and its not actually a problem.

This sounds like a behavioral problem not medical but to be safe I would recommend running a urine sample. If there is no urinary tract infection I would make sure you have 2 litter boxes and they are cleaned daily. I would always make sure the blankets are folded and put away that way she doesn't have the opportunity to make this mistake. I would also recommend discussing behavioral meds with your veterinarian.
