Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold | Female | spayed | 3 months and 19 days old
I am getting a new cat Ella on Monday, I know I should have a separate room for her to stay for a few days until she gets comfortable and ready to meet the other cat, but I was wondering can I keep her at my room where my cat sometimes comes and sleeps, he usually will want to come once a day for sure and sometimes sleeps here, of course he likes to sleep at my sister's bedroom too. Will it be bad for the kitten to have a new space with my cat's smell in it and my old cat wanting to come in?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You are correct in thinking you should keep them separate for a little while before letting them meet face to face. I recommend keeping your new cat in a separate room from your current cat and allow them to be on either side of a door (so they can smell each other but not see each other). After a few days, you can try using a baby gate or some sort of barrier to allow them to see each other but not touch each other (or worse case scenario, fight each other). This will allow them to get used to their smells and presence. If this seems to be going well and neither cat acts aggressive toward the other, you can try introducing them together. Try to avoid using food to bring them together, as this could create food aggression between them. I hope this is helpful!
