My cat is losing tail hair and kicking her butt. Is it fleas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 6.3 lbs

My cat is shedding but so is the top of her tail near her rear end, we are getting rid of fleas so could it be fleas or the shedding or new coat hairs coming, etc? She also keeps jumping with her butt it reminds of a donkey kick almost what could that be?

It is quite likely the flea infestation that is causing this. However, if after you get rid of the fleas your cat is still having these "jump" reactions you should take her to your vet for an exam to rule out Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome and similar conditions.
