My cat is terrified of the hair dryer. What are drying alternatives?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 24 days old

Freckle is terrified of the hair dryer and because her fur is thick and somewhat long, I don't think I should air dry her. Every time I turn the hair dryer on, she runs under the bed and doesn't come out until the sound's gone. And if someone holds her while I blow dry her, she starts biting and scratching extremely aggressively. What can I do?

I wouldn't bathe a cat too often. They are very good at keeping themselves clean. I would just recommend rubbing her with a towel and letting her be. You can also comb her out if she will sit for it. I would just be careful with getting bit by her since cat bites can get infected. I would be surprised if she sat for a blow dryer. Most cats will not.
