My cat has a bald spot with a scab that's growing. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 5 lbs

On June 20th I noticed a bald spot on my cat and it had a scab looking thing on it. I looked again last night June 21st and it grew. It's about the size of a quarter and a dime put beside each other. What is it?

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Mouse regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.
