Why do my dogs pee in the same spot inside? How to stop marking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 2 months old | 14 lbs

I am thankful for the advice given to me thus far. So, I hope you can help with my next. My two small dogs are father and son. They tend to pee around house after each other. They are trained, but I don't understand why they do this. It's only on certain areas they do this. Every time one pees, the other does right in the exact spot. How can stop them from this. I walk them every day and take them out to potential regularly. Please give advice if its available. Thank you so much.

This sounds like it is territory marking behavior, neutering both may reduce it. I recommend cleaning such areas with biological washing detergent (never bleach as this can encourage re marking) in order to help deactivate the scent triggers which encourage this but it is unlikely to stop it completely
