My dog has upset stomach, runny poop, and scoots. Could it be worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 16 lbs

What type of worms can my dog have? Her stomach is upset runny yellow and it looks to be very small worms but hard to tell because she eat grass yesterday so that’s in her poop also and I have also noticed the last 2 weeks or so she is sliding her butt across the floor more often so I figured she probably has worms maybe. Can you please help . Thank you

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bella! Unfortunately I can’t tell from looking at her stool if she has worms. There is a lot of mucous in her stool and that could look like worms. Mucous indicates inflammation of the colon. Scooting can be from full or impacted anal glands, worms, from the diarrhea or allergies. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, food allergy or intolerance, reaction to new food/treat/table food, metabolic issues like liver or kidney problems. I would suggest having her seen by your vet to have an exam and her anal glands checked. Bring a stool sample to have it checked for intestinal parasites. You can start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. I wish you the best!
