My dog has a growing lump on his chest. Should I be worried about it?

I think my dog has a skin tumor or a soft tissue tumor because I can see it and feel it it seems as if it is getting larger and it is located near the chest. Must I be worried?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Any lump or mass is a possible cause for concern. Masses/lumps can be cancerous, or non-cancerous (lipoma, cyst, abscess). Anything that is changing (growing, changing colour/shape, bursting, etc.) should be addressed and the sooner the better. I would recommend a visit to your vet. They will likely take a sample to see what it is, and possible surgically remove it. Best of luck with Dogz.

This could be a cyst which is a fluid filled mass, it could be an abscess which is one that is infected, or could even be something called a mast cell tumor. It could also be a site of an allergic reaction. If it continues to get bigger it needs to be checked out by your veterinarian today. I would not apply anything like a warm or cold compress or any appointment at this time. If it stops growing but does not go away it needs to get checked out by your veterinarian sometime within the next few days.
