My dog keeps scooting even after anal glands are clear. What helps?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog is licking and scooting his but over the floor and looks really uncomfortable. He has had his anal glands emptied by the vet and we do it ourselves every so often and they are now clear. What should I do, what should I give him? Is there a specific kind of food he needs? If so what food? I was looking at silica 6 c for dogs and wanted to know if his is ok and another one called stool firm and wanted to know if this helps anal glands stay empty

If his glands are empty and he is still scooting he likely has an infection in the sac known as anal sacculitis. It may be necessary to get him a course of antibiotics. The best products I have found to help are fibor which bulks out the stool or glandex.
