What are these black specks on my cat's tail? Flea dirt, stud tail, or more?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered

My male cat (a "Show Persian" cat) has black dots/specks on the skin of his tail. From searching around on the internet, my mother has decided that it could be stud tail or flea dirt. I believe there are other possiblities. These have only appeared recently and some significant things that happened recently are 1) we moved houses 2) our cat likes to relax on the balcony (bask in the sunlight). I'm very worried about him. Please helppp!! Thank you :)

Hello, I suspect based on location and appearance flea dirt is highly likely. I would advise you to apply a monthly flea prevention to all of the pets. I recommend Revolution for cats. If you see fleas in the home, you should contact your local pest control company to discuss pet safe home treatment.
