My cat has a UTI. Why can't she pee after her antibiotic shot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 10.9 lbs

My cat was diagnosed with a UTI Saturday and my vet gave her a 2 week antibiotic shot. Since she’s been home she hasn’t been able to pee. She tries but only a little dot comes out. Is this normal?

This is a typical sign of cystitis and it is commonly seen even after treatment has started. Usually anti-inflammatory medication are given as well as antibiotics as a first line treatment. If signs persist in 24 hours another check up will be needed.
