My cat has a sore on his face. Is it a cut or a serious skin issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 23 days old | 1.5 lbs

Does he need to go to the vet? I’m not sure if it’s just a cut or if it’s some kind of skin issue.

Hello. It is very difficult to determine the cause of the lesion on Gary's face, but I do not believe it to be a cut. My first inclination is to rule out ringworm, but it may be any number of other bacterial or parasitic skin infections. To make sure it does not spread any further I would highly recommend having your veterinarian take a look to diagnose exactly what is going on. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
