Why is my 9-year-old dog suddenly peeing inside after walks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basenji | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

Hi - My dog recently started piddling in the house every time we come in from a walk. She is over 9 years old and has never done this before. What does it mean and should I be worried about her?

Hello, it sounds like Bella could have a urinary tract infection. Alternatively, she could have bladder stones. If you have shortened her walks, then perhaps she is not being allowed sufficient time to fully urinate. If this persists, or if you note blood in the urine, frequent small urinations, or painful urinations, then she should be evaluated by her veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.
