My cat has a hard, crusty lump under her chin. What could it be?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years old | 9.9 lbs

My cat has a small very hard lump under their chin. It feels crusty like it has a scab on it. It seems to be on the soft area of the chin. She doesn’t care about having it touched she still loves her chin scratches. What do you think it may be?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Sgt. Jellybean (great name!) The chin is a common area for a skin infection, also known as chin acne. The fact you are feeling a scab makes that a strong possibility. If not chin acne then it can be many different things. Sadly many skin growths can look the same. I recommend, especially due to her age, that any new mass be examined by your Vet. You can try changing her food bowls from ceramic to glass or metal (give them a good scrub) and cleaning the chin well to see if it resolves (if chin acne). I would try this shampoo locally twice daily for 5-7 days to see if the bump resolves: https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21564 I hope this helps! I wish you and Sgt. Jellybean the very best!
