Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | unspayed
I have 4 rescue indoor cats. They are all at least 10 yrs old. I've just discovered small mites in the fur they have shed where they've been sleeping. And we have had small itchy spots on our ankles and arms. How can I treat this?

I'm wondering if you are seeing fleas not mites, as mites are microscopic and can only be seen using a microscope. Fleas would also cause you and your family to have small itchy spots. I can give you a flea treatment program for your cats. First, I would give them Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. You may want to see your doctor to see if there are medications to help you with the flea bites.
