hi, over my basset hounds tail there is a bad rash that is causing her to scratch a lot, what can I do?

Poor Chili! The most common cause of a rash with excessive itching near the base of the tail is fleas - so if she isn't currently on a good quality flea control medication like Nexgard, Bravecto, or Trifexis, this is the first thing I would suggest. Other possible causes of the rash and itching would include allergies, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). It sounds like she may need antibiotics and a short-term steroid or other medication to help resolve the itching, so I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam when you are able to.
