My hamster is itchy, has scabs, and chews a lot. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I am worried about my teddy bear hamster. She has been itchy ever since I got her 9 months ago. Lately I have noticed 3 scabs have appeared on her body, I would attach pictures however I do not have the money to pay for that. have been using hydrogen peroxide and bag balm on her scabs, it heals them but when one healed another came. I can't bring her to a vet and I do not know what's wrong with her. If it helps she also chews A LOT more than pervious hamsters. I would like to know what is wrong

You need to treat her for mites first, you will be able to find mite treatment for hamster in pet shops over the counter. you may also want to switch to a different bedding, they can be allergic to sawdust.
