Why is my cat scratching her tail and has red skin on her belly?

Hi. So about a week ago I noticed that my cat was scratching at the base of her tail. I didn't think much about it but about a day or so later I noticed that her skin is somewhat red and irritated. Some of her hairs in that area has been broken as well as the redness spreading. I recently found out that she also has a small irritation on her belly . She seems to be very happy despite the discomfort. She is not allowed to go outside and she gets a bath every two weeks or so. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 1 year and 4 months old

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Maui regularly every month with a high quality flea product (ex. Advantage Multi) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy. In some cases a course of antibiotics is also needed in order to treat the secondary infection that has appeared.
