Help! My dog has orange mucous poop and straining. What's wrong?

My dog is passing orange mucous poos and straining. He seems happy in himself, but any food goes straight through. He had an upset a few weeks back after he had tripe sticks.I starved him a day then gave his usual Marcus muhler dry food and tinned deer and wild rabbit. This has always suited him and my other dogs. Then the other day he had a hide stick chew and next day the orange mucous poos started again. Today I gave him rice and fish. He has passed orange mucous but not as much . What is it. Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old

It's probably a gastrointestinal upset or infection. withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he continues with the abnormal poo, take him to the vet to get treatment.
