Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Female | spayed | 10 lbs
My kitty has a rash that goes from the base of her tail halfway up her spine about an inche in diameter. I just moved into a new house with her and this showed up. Shes been chewing nonstop for a week now and has done a lot of damage. Ive ordered some Diatomaceous Earth to treat her and the house in case its mites or fleas itll be here tomorrow but Is there anything I can do to help relieve the pain or assist in the healing process. Im about to head out and buy a cone collar too.

It does sound like Mayonnaise has fleas, and unfortunately, diatomaceous earth will not cure them. I will give you a flea treatment program that will kill the fleas. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

It could be a flea allergy dermatitis with a secondary infection. You could bathe her with a medicated cat shampoo and apply a flea product, like Revolution or Frontline. She may also need an antibiotic, anti-histamine and a corticosteroid to help treat an infection, and relieve inflammation, itching and discomfort. Have your vet take a look at her to determine the cause and prescribe medications.
