My cat ate aloe vera and is throwing up. What should I do for her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 7 days old

I think my cat has been chewing on an aloe plant I have. I threw away the plant. The cat is acting normally but has thrown up a few times. She is still eating and drinking and has a normal level of energy. Is there anything else I can do for her?

The aloe vera plant is produces mild to moderate toxic effects when chewed or ingested. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite as well as a change in urine color. If Snitch simply chewed but did not eat any part of the plant, you may see mild signs of GI upset. Remove the plant from within his reach, monitor for symptoms and see your vet if symptoms worsen or persist.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Eagon. It's a good idea to keep an eye on him for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, a loss of appetite, or a change in his urine color, those are signs of toxicity from the plant. Should you see those signs, have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
