Dog ate grass, now vomiting and pooping grass. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 14 days old | 51 lbs

My dog ate grass at the park. The next day he vomited 3 times - each time there was grass in it. Fairly normal bowel movement with grass in it also. Could this be from grass or should I be worried?

The grass could certainly have caused the upset or Bronx may have eaten it because he was feeling sick already. As long as he stopped vomiting and is behaving normally, there is no cause for concern. If he is still vomiting, you can try withholding food for 24 hours then feeding a bland diet in small. frequent amounts. If the vomiting does not stop or if he develops other symptoms (diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc.), then see your veterinarian for a physical exam.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There can be many causes for vomiting- viral, bacterial, or parasitic infection, organ issues such as kidney or liver disease, gastrointestinal obstructions, pancreatitis, among other causes can all be possibilities. I would recommend withholding food from Rocko for the next 6-12 hours (he can have water) to give his stomach a break. then gradually introduce small amounts of his normal food to him or a small amount of boiled chicken and rice. If the vomiting continues, I'd recommend Rock see his veterinarian. I hope this helps!
