My dog was bred. When should her pregnant belly start to show growth?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 6 lbs

My Yorkie tied first Tie, of this heat cycle, 24 days ago. She has refused her kibble for 3 days now...but her stomach is not growing yet. Should her stomach be showing growth at this time?

You typically won't see signs of a larger belly until she is at least 40 days along in her pregnancy. At three to four weeks of pregnancy, dogs can refuse food, which you are seeing in Alli. If you want to confirm her pregnancy, I recommend taking her into the vet for a blood test. The blood test looks for a hormone called relaxin, which is produced when a dog is pregnant.
