My dog has rapid breathing, runny nose, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

hi! i'm babysitting my brothers dog (he's been he more times than i can count) and he isn't eating much (which happens but this is less than usual), his nose is runny, and he seems to be breathing rapidly, he was kinda hyper last night at midnight (i had a few friends over and we were hanging out) and he wanted to play and usually he's sleepy by 10, but maybe it was the new people. does he just have a cold? or what is it, and how do i treat it?

If he is stil breathing rapidly and acting abnormal than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection and your vet can take an x-ray to evaluate his heart and lungs and then prescribe medication to treat. He might need an antibiotic or other medications, depending on the diagnosis.
