Poor Buster! Chronic anal gland issues are often related to food allergies or insufficient fiber in the diet - so sometimes, a prescription hypoallergenic food like Hills z/d or Purina HA can be helpful, or a high fiber GI diet. If all else fails, you may want to consider having the anal glands surgically removed. This effectively eliminates any further problems with them, and is a fairly simple surgery that can usually be performed by a general practice veterinarian.
