My dog ate chocolate! Is it poisoning? What if I can't afford a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 8 months and 14 days old | 12 lbs

My 9 month year old miniature dachshund (11 lbs) was just found consuming a ton of chocolate Hershey colored candies (similar to m&m). He finished an entire candy cane tube (Christmas gift). Should I be concerned? If so, what do I do if I can not afford to take him to an emergency clinic?

If this happened in the past couple hours and he did not vomit yet, you will need to try and induce vomiting using hydrogen peroxide 3% solution. if this doesn't work you should take her to the ER to get an injection to induce vomiting.

If you do not know the exact amount as well as the percentage and concentration of the chocolate in the cake i would recommend taking her to the vet right away in order for her to get an injection to induce vomiting.
