My dog has swollen gums. What causes it and when should I see a vet?

That is a sign of gingivitis and gum disease. It can also be the start of a growth since there is more evident behind the canine tooth I would schedule and appointment with your vet as she may need her teeth cleaned to help treat the infection. From there if it appears to be a growth also they may need to take a biopsy to see what it is

    This could be either an inflammatory response due to underlying dental disease or an oral mass. I would first start with antibiotics and then get Bear seen by your vet for a dental cleaning. They can then take samples from these areas to get them tested to confirm what the underlying cause is, since it could be either scenario. I hope that these swellings turn out to be nothing more than inflammation and resolves with a good dental cleaning. Best of luck to you and Bear moving forward. Take care!
