Why does my dog have red itchy rashes on his belly? What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 50 lbs

My black lab is somewhere between 3-4 years old. On his belly closer to his rear he has red rashes that he is constantly itching. Do you know what it is or how he gets them?

He probably has skin allergies which may be secondary to food or fleas. Apply an e-collar to prevent chewing and licking. I see a few pustules which indicates he may a skin infection. Follow up with your primary care to discuss flea prevention, a food trial and whether or not antibiotics are needed.
