My cat has a sudden bald spot under her armpit. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old

Hi! I'm really worried as my cat Oreo has a huge bald spot near her armpit, so when you lift up her arm. It doesn't seem to hurt her when you touch it and she seems totally normal, but I noticed it only yesterday and it had me frightened. There was absolutely no fur there whatsoever. Please help!

If her skin looks completely normal than she may be overgrooming in that area from stress or an obsessive compulsive disorder. She could also have an infection, ringworm, etc. so it would be best to have a vet examine the area. Once diagnosed, your vet can prescribe medications to help treat the problem.
