Is my new dog's sneezing and reverse sneezing normal or serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 8 months and 18 days old

Hi my dog has started sneezing more than usual and has been reverse sneezing, I have just adopted him and I am unsure if this is a normal response to his increased and more frequent sniffing of his new surroundings or an allergy or something more serious. He doesn't sneeze all the time mainly after he's been sniffing around and seems to reverse sneeze when he gets excited

If he sniffes around quite a lot at the moment that might be why he is sneezing that much. It could be allergy related, it could also be a foreign body in the nasal passages or an upper respiratory infection. You need to keep an eye on it and if it doesn't resolve- take him to the vet in order to get it checked.
