Why is my dog still having seizures despite epilepsy medication?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Kelpie | Male | unneutered | 4 years old | 77 lbs

My dog had idiopathic epilepsy and is 4 years old and is a kelpie cross collie he’s on medication and it stops him fitting but every once or twice a week he will have up to 4 fits with in the space of an hour or two I wondered whether it will get worse or stay the same or whether he’s in pain etc money is a problem but we make sure he has his medication but that’s all we’re affording at the minute can you help me our vets don’t seem interested when we tel them he’s fitted just log it in system

Poor Bailey! I'm sorry to hear that he's having this problem. Our goal with epilepsy treatment is normally to keep the pet from having seizures more often than once a month - so if he is having multiple seizures once or twice a week, this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. It sounds like he may need a dosage adjustment on his medication, or he may need to have a second medication added in to provide better seizure control. If your veterinarian doesn't seem concerned about this, I would recommend getting a second opinion from another vet in your area.
