My dog licks herself a lot and pees indoors. Is it a UTI or vaginitis?

Hello! My 2 year old boxer mix recently had surgery for a luxating patella. While she’s healing great, I’ve noticed within the past week she has been licking herself excessively and sometimes pees the bed after she already went out. Could she have a UTI or something like that?

Poor Nike! Yes, it certainly sounds like she might have a UTI or vaginitis causing these symptoms. This can sometimes happen in female dogs. I would recommend taking her back in to see your vet sometime in the next few days, if you can - he/she can check her vulva to make sure that everything looks okay, and will probably want to get a urine sample to check for infection. If there is a problem, your vet will prescribe an antibiotic to take care of it.
