He definitely seems to be in a lot of discomfort, but without examining and doing some testing, I can't tell if he's going to die anytime soon. I can say that if he continues not to eat or drink, then he won't live more than a few days. The lack of appetite tells me that he feeling very bad and the cracking noise plus inability to keep his balance tells me that he has very bad arthritis. The decision to euthanize is extremely difficult and there is no right or wrong answer. I advise my clients to consider euthanasia when they feel like their pet is suffering so much that they don't seem themselves anymore; or just don't seem to enjoy life anymore. You will be the best judge of this. The best thing you can do for him is to take him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. The veterinarian will be able to better advise about his current condition, treatment options and whether euthanasia seems to be appropriate. I hope that helps and your dog feels better soon.
