Why is my cat's eye swollen and oozing again? Does she need medicine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

My cat has a swollen, oozing lower eyelid. It seems to be a recurring problem in the same eye each time, but it usually clears up on its own within a couple of days. It's lasted longer than usual this time, about a week. What's causing this? Does she need medicine?

Meow face is so cute! When eyelids swell like that, it could be an infection from virus or bacterial, it could be an injury to the cornea, it could be allergies, or a contact irritant. She will need to be seen and most likely will need eyedrops for comfort and infection. Good luck.
