My dog's poop has long strings like sausage casings. Are they worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 8 months old | 42 lbs

Occasionally I am finding long string like things in my dog's feces that resemble the casings you would take off of sausage. What should I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be worms potentially. Otherwise, this would still be abnormal and may be because of something Buddy ate. I recommend that you have Buddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check a stool sample for abnormalities. Good luck and have a great day!
