Why does my 14-year-old cat have a black nose scab that won't heal?

My 14 year old male cat has had a black scab on the end of his nose that hasn't healed in years. Maybe every 3 months it will come off and his nose looks pink and hairless but the scab comes back within a day or two. He was born and raised as a barn cat until I adoped him 1.5 years ago. It hasn't ever spread or gotten smaller but it is sensitive. He also hasn't given it to my other cats. The vet at the farm said he just had a weak immune system and couldn't heal the scab but he's healthy otherw

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would agree with your vet and say that this is likely immune mediated. There are topical ointments you can try and use to see if they make a difference. I would suggest using a topical ointment called Tacrolimus and see if this helps reduce the severity as well as administering a course of an antibiotic. For a definitive answer on what this could be, I would recommend a biopsy of the nose as this will help determine the cause of the scabbing nose. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction!
