Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 11.4 lbs
My cat is straining to urinate and I’ve taken him to two vets. The first one gave him an antibiotic shot and he seemed okay for 1 week. Yesterday att he one week mark he was straining again and licking licking licking, crying and moaning. He did have an accident after licking himself on my kitchen floor. Took him to the second vet and she said his penis had mucus on it. She gave me pain medicine for him. Well he is very scared cat and I can’t give him the medicine . I attempted it 5 times

I am so sorry to hear about Spooky’s discomfort. He is straining to urinate due to inflammation associated with bladder stones, infection, crystals or mucus blocking his urethra. Typically, we treat these patients with pain medication, prazosin (to decrease urethral spasms) and a canned urinary prescription diet. If he has failed to respond to medical therapy and you cannot medicate him, you should contact your veterinarian to discuss hospitalization for medical (urinary catheterization) vs. surgical therapy (perineal urethostomy). Unfortunately, you will need to medicate him independent of the treatment chosen unless he can stay in the hospital until his obstruction resolves.
