My puppy's penis sheath is red and scraped. What should I do at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 2 days old | 6.8 lbs

My puppy has an injury to his penis. The penis is still enclosed, but the sheath looks as if it has been scraped or something and the skin is red and inflamed. He doesn't seem to mind, no signs of discomfort. My vet is closed and I have applied a saline solution of water and salt to the affected area. Is there anything else I should do?

Not really, as long as he is not bothered by it and as long as it is not bleeding i would avoid touching the area, it should heal within a few days if he is not licking it constantly. if it does not resolve within a few days you should take Lewi to your vet in order to get it checked and treated.
