My kittens play rough for hours. Is this normal? Should I intervene?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 months and 2 days old | 15 lbs

Hello-my 3.5 month old cat and 7 month old cat will rough play for hours on end with nearly no breaks longer then 30 seconds or so. Its definitrly not fighting as it is quiet and they keep going back for more and will both stop to take drink breaks. Should I allow the rough play to continue for such long periods of time? Is this normal?

You don't mention how long you have had the kittens, but I suspect that level of play will slowly decrease over the next few months. Kittens have a phenomenal amount of energy, so you are very lucky that they are playing with each other so extensively. You are looking at all the right things to make sure that they are playing and not fighting, so I would just continue to monitor them and make sure nothing changes. I hope that was helpful.
