Why is my senior dog eating and peeing a lot without drinking much?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 10 years old | 60 lbs

My 10 yr old Pit Mix has been eating excessively and urinating frequently, but not drinking excessively. What could be her problem?

I would be suspicious of diabetes with this history. They do tend to drink a lot though, so this definitely does not fit well. Urinating frequently without drinking more almost never happens, so I would check that there's no possibility that she is drinking more. Otherwise, she could be urinating more frequently due to a urinary tract infection. Either way, it's best to have Lucy evaluated by a vet sometime soon. The vet will be able to further evaluate her and test for the possibility of diabetes. I hope that helps and all is well with Lucy.
