My dog has flaky skin but isn't itchy. What can I do to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 53 lbs

Rusty has very flaky skin with very very little itching. Humans have been having a tough time with skin dryness this season due to the weather. What can I do for my dog. It’s more disgusting than anything since he sleeps on our bed. I started noticing it about 4 months ago and it is just getting worse.

You could bathe him with a dog shampoo, like HyLyt and see if that helps. You could also add Free From Snip Tips to his diet which contains omega 3 fatty acids and will help keep his skin and coat healthy. Otherwise, he should be examined by a vet for treatment. He could have a bacterial skin infection and may need an antibiotic to treat.
