Hello, my dog Shadow is obsessively licking his private area. He walks for a while and then begins licking it obsessively. It started yesterday and it has continued all day today. Do you know what problem he might be having. He is also long haired too. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 22 days old | 12 lbs

He could possibly have a urinary tract infection that itches or burns and causing him to lick himself. I recommend getting him in to see your vet for an exam and urinalysis to determine if he has a UTI and how best to treat it. He's very young to have urinary stones, but it's not unheard of, so getting him seen by your vet is the best course of action.
