My dog is lethargic and not eating for days. When should I see a vet?

Since Sunday my dog is acting sluggish & not eating. He’s normally very very active & playful. He is still drinking a little & peeing.

Hello. I am so sorry that your dog is unwell. We must be concerned with a pet who is not feeling well, as things can get much worse very quickly, especially if not enough fluids are being taken in. Dehydration can complicate a relatively simple infection or condition. Tomorrow will be 72 hours that he has been sick, so it is time to seek professional help. Please call your veterinarian in the morning & let's find out if this is a bacterial or viral infection, or if he has ingested something that is making him so sick. I hope all is well soon. Take care.

Hello and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. With your description, I would recommend taking her in to be examined by a veterinarian for further testing and treatment recommendations. Lethargy can be a symptom of so many things so it would be best to have a vet examine her to give you a better idea of what is going on. I would recommend starting with testing her blood to see if there are any changes that are concerning and possible abdominal x-rays (especially if she is one that eats random objects). I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I am also available via consultation if needed.
