What's wrong with my pet's swollen, blind eye? How much is surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We know he needs surgery on his eye but how much will it cost? We have taken him to the vet and they gave him 1ML of Buprenorphine (0.05ML by mouth twice a day for 7 days) and Trobramycin Ophthalmic Solution, USP 0.3%-Sterile (it was eye drops and we had to give him 1-2 drops every 12 hours). He went blind in the now swollen eye and then it just started to swell more and more but it eventually grew a scab and the swelling went away. If you know what's wrong with his eye please let me know thanks

I would guess the eye has either ruptured or there is a tumor or abscess behind the eye. I agreed that surgery to remove the eye is likely needed. Cost depends on where you live (ie: things in New York City cost more than things in Louisville, KY). I would expect charges between $800-$2000 but once again, that is high variable depending on your location. I would recommend to have a consultation with a local veterinarian who would be most able to give you an accurate cost. The doctor you originally saw can most likely give you an idea of charges. I hope your kitty starts feeling better quickly. Please post again if you have any further questions.
