My 6month old pup scratches since I got him when he was 2 months old . I thought it’s just his habit but then I took him to the vets and found out he’s got too many ticks which were taken care of and no sign of ticks or flees anymore . But he still scratches himself all the time . Is that possible he’s got allergy . Or should I try putting on coconut oil after bath on his body so that his skin might be dry or anything else you would suggest ?

Your dog’s skin may still be irritated from the flea/tick infestation and he may have a skin infection which would cause him to continually itch. Allergies are uncommon in a dog this young but it could be the problem as well. You can try bathing him with an aloe and oatmeal shampoo to soothe the skin. You may also want to try benedryl at home and see if that helps. If the itching continues or if you notice any redness or sores in the skin then I would take Bongo back to the vet for a recheck. He may need to be prescribed an anti-itch medication like steroids, Apoquel, or Cytopoint. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
